What’s this JP5 tablet all about? pt.2

We often times receive questions about the availability of our services in each state. Today in “JP5 101 pt. 2”, we will cover some additional common questions.

Is the JP5 tablet available in my loved one’s state?

As of this posting, the JP5mini is available in state facilities in the following states:

  • Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington state correctional facilities, as well as Milwaukee House of Corrections, Northlake Correctional Facility and Taft Correctional Facility.

The JP5s – along with the JP5mini – is available in the below state facilities:

  • Ohio, Minnesota and Vermont, as well as Northlake Correctional Facility. It is also currently available as part of a pilot program at West Tennessee State Prison (women’s section).

Georgia facilities are unique, as the JP5s is the only device available and the tablets are given to inmates when they arrive.  However, if your loved one is serving less than six months, they will not receive a tablet from the state, but they can purchase one.

Tablet availability can change, so be sure to check http://www.jpay.com/PAvail.aspx and with your loved one to stay up-to-date.

For specific questions you can call JPay customer service at 800-574-5729 or email support@jpay.com.

How much do the JP5s and JP5mini cost?

This varies by state. The best way to find out pricing is to log into your JPay account on JPay.com and see which options are available for you to purchase on your loved ones’ behalf. If the option to purchase the JP5 tablet is not available from your JPay account, please contact our customer service at 800-574-5729 for assistance.  Keep in mind, your loved one can only have one tablet.  However, if he/she currently has a JP5 device, only he/she could upgrade or purchase a new tablet from the kiosk.  This is often the reason why people don’t see the option to buy a JP5 device on JPay.com.

What products and services are available at my loved one’s facility and what are the rates?

A good way to stay up-to-date with the products and services available at your loved one’s facility is to visit http://www.jpay.com/PAvail.aspx. JPay will also send out notifications via email and via the JPay kiosks (located within the facility) when new services are added.  But the absolute best way to know what JPay services are available to your loved ones is to log into your JPay account periodically and review the options there… whenever a service is added (or in rare cases, removed), it will be reflected on the page you see when you log into JPay.com or open the mobile app.

When will more services be brought to my loved one’s facility?

This is up to the discretion of each state Department of Corrections. JPay does not control the process of adding new services in each state.

I’ve been trying to purchase a jpay player for a loved one. It’s not allowing me to because of the one he had when he was incarcerated before. What can I do to help him get it cleared up that he currently doesn’t have one?

Just wondering why my other post was deleted. I am trying to find out answers as to why every time I call customer service I get a different answer to my questions. My fiance has a new JPlayer5 and he accidentally swiped the screen instead of going up and down to adjust the brightness and now when he turns it on the screen blinks really fast and then goes dark. The screen doesn’t stay on long enough for him to put his password in. He has submitted tickets – the one that was answered told him to check his settings. If his entire ticket had been read, they would have seen that he can’t get into his player to get to his settings. When I call, I’m told to tell him not to put more tickets in or keep putting tickets in – or Jpay will send someone to look at, the prison will look at it, he will have to send it in, etc..too many different answers. We don’t know what to do because JPay reps doesn’t seem to know the proper procedures as to what they are. We just want his player fixed or a ticket to tell him what to do. This latest ticket still hasn’t been answered and I was told I would have an email reply within 48 hours. That was 11 days ago. Please advise.

My fiance just received his new jplayer 5 tablet and he accidentally swiped the screen instead instead of hitting up or down to brighten or dim it. He now can’t get onto his player. It blinks real fast and then the screen goes black. He is not able to type his password onto the screen so he is unable to use his jplayer. The first support ticket JPay replied for him to check his settings. If his entire ticket had been read, they would have seen that he can’t get onto his Jplayer so he can’t check his settings. He has yet to hear about the second ticket he put in and I have called and no one seems to know what to do. I’ve been told to tell him to keep putting tickets, others told me not to put any more tickets in. Is there any way to trouble shoot this? We’ve been told that Jpay sends people out to look at tablets, been told he’d have to send it in, been told that the prison looks at it. All of this information comes from customer service at JPay itself. We just want answers and his JPlayer 5 working again. Please advise. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind this is a brand new player.

Jpay email was just introduced to my loved one at ciw in ca.i bought her the jpay5s tablet so she can do email in private.and connect through wi-fi.the jpay website indicates that the tablet will come ready to use.radio, email, books, and that she will be able to buy music. She has since recieved her tablet.she brought to my attention that the only thing that is installed is the radio.she has tried syncing the tablet to the kiosk so that she can download the other featured apps.but they are not available on the kiosk or loaded onto the tablet.i have tried calling jpay several times.and all they say any issues have to go through the facility.does any one else that bought the jpay 5 tablet for there loved one experience the same problem that my loved one is having with there tablet?

Hi Tiffany – The JP5mini is available in the state of Michigan. Your loved one can order the tablet from the JPay kiosks located within his/her facility.
