Prisoner Information In Utah

Prison overcrowding is a fast growing concern around the country. The Utah State prison system has found that they are not immune to this crisis, and are feeling the hurt, as well. Prisoner information in Utah reflects this increasing problem. How will they deal with the overcrowding? This was the topic a meeting of the legislative committee addressed, recently. Tom Patterson, the Department of Corrections Executive Director informed the committee of the dilemma, explaining that the state had only 108 beds left, available for prison inmates. That’s 108 beds in the entire state. I’d say that is a crisis. With at least 10 inmates each month expected to be entered into the prison system…that leaves little time to find a fix.
The interim plan is to begin placing new inmates in places like the gymnasiums and other open spaces. This situation causes concern for the safety of the prison guards, and other employees. Once those spots are at capacity, the inmates will begin to be released early, which obviously causes concern for the public.
Overcrowding can cause stress for the inmates, as well, resulting in bad situations. If you know an inmate and would like to stay in touch with them through this tough time, contact JPay.
